Meet Jackson

Meet Jackson, our Account Manager

Who are you?

Hello! I’m Jackson, Liquorice’s shiny new Account Manager and in-house hand model. I grew up basking in the sun on the Surf Coast and moved to Melbourne as soon as humanly possible. On any given day, you can find me taking in the edible spoils of the inner north: a morning long black at Everyday Coffee, miso peanut butter cookie from Falco bakery, afternoon beers and burgs at the Tramway Hotel, or a raucous dinner at Jim’s Greek Tavern.

What do you do at Liquorice?

I support and oversee projects on the brand team here at liquorice; making sure the team are kept up-to-date with the latest from our amazing clients (and vice versa), and keeping projects on time and on budget. I’ve always been an organiser, and there’s nothing I love more than supporting a creative team and watching them make magic. I also have a not-so-secret love of admin – I get my kicks ticking off to-do lists.

How did you get here?

True to the nature of an allsorts, several years ago, I left a career in the hair industry to study a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at RMIT. Drawn to the creative production side of things, I found myself working in events for a public arts organisation and, most recently, as a Digital Operations and Production Assistant for two photographers. I’ve also tried my hand at food and product styling, and set design. I was at a bit of a loose end when (at the end of lockdown 4,376) my mate, haircut client, epic DJ, and Liquorice’s Head of Digital Strategy, Emerald Cowell, got me in touch with Anna and Pete here at Liquorice. Before I knew it, I was cutting into a parma at the Napier for Friday office lunch.

Off the back of working freelance, it’s an incredible feeling to know you have a team that has your back whether they're near or far.

What's the best thing about working at Liquorice?

When I started at Liquorice, the studio was still working from home, so my office for the week was:

  1. Our Brand Strategy Lead’s dining room table in Point Lonsdale (complete with coastal breeze)
  2. A cafe in Albert Park for a client meeting
  3. A half day at Liquorice HQ in Fitzroy and, finally
  4. My bedroom in Collingwood.

As bizarre a first week as that may sound, it’s testament to the Liquorice crew that it couldn’t have felt more comfortable or normal (#newnormal?). Off the back of working freelance, it’s an incredible feeling to know you have a team that has your back whether they're near or far.

If you could learn one new skill, what would it be?

I would really like to learn to knit and create the chunkiest of winter sweaters. When I was younger, someone taught me to crochet, however, my patience only got me as far as one single finger of a glove.

Where do you find inspiration?

Often in the really simple, tiny details. I easily get caught up in over-engineering a problem, so experiencing a simple elegant solution is a reminder to strip things back and look at it from a different perspective.

Tell us something we don't know about you.

I bake. I bake a lot. It began with cinnamon buns in March 2020, and culminated with a KitchenAid and Swiss buttercream meringue frosting in October 2021. Lately, I’ve eased off a bit after learning my lesson about having cake constantly in the house, but... fair warning, I'm about to kick things up a notch at the next studio morning tea.
